Penbe Han (Pembe Inn - Balkapanı Inn)
A beautiful example of Kastamonu inns
Pembe Han is located on the west side of Kurşunlu Han. It was built by the Ottoman ruler Sultan Bayezid II between 1481 and 1512 due to the need arising from the commercial activity that developed in Kastamonu.
During the Seljuk, Principalities and Ottoman periods, great importance was attached to infrastructure works for the revival of commercial activities. In this context, great importance was attached to the construction of inns, which we can think of as businessmen’s hotels or passenger accommodation centers. Many inns were built especially for the accommodation of business people and passengers in places where trade routes passed or intersected, and bazaars and covered bazaars were built to carry out commercial activities. Kastamonu and its vicinity have been an important trade center from the Roman period to the Modern Age.
