The heart of Kastamonu, the soul of the city
It was built by the sculptor Prof. Dr. Tankut Öktem between 1985 and 1990 who was commissioned by the Kastamonu Governorship Monument Building Committee. The total height of the monument is 12 meters. Inaugurated on July 30, 1990, the monument was built in the largest square of the city. The monument consists of three parts. On the front, Şerife Bacı (Sister Şerife), who became the symbol of the heroism of Turkish women in the War of Independence, and behind her are figures representing Atatürk and the Turkish nation. In the last part, Kuvayi Milliye (National Forces) and the nation that are striving for the liberation of the homeland are represented.
