Şerife Bacı Kültür Evi (Şerife Bacı Culture House)
ŞERİFE BACI KÜLTÜR EVİ (ŞERİFE BACI CULTURE HOUSE)
Heirloom from Independence to the Future
It is located in Seydiler district of Kastamonu province where Şerife Bacı (Sister Şerife), one of the symbolic heroic women of the Turkish War of Independence, was born.
Şerife Bacı is one of the thousands of nameless heroes carrying ammunition between İnebolu and Ankara, the most important logistics support line of the Turkish War of Independence. In December 1921, in severe winter conditions, when she was only 21, she covered her sweater over the ammunition so that the ammunition she was carrying would not get wet, and a result of that, she froze to death and was martyred.
This cultur house was created to commemorate Şerife Bacı and those like her and all the nameless heroes who made all kinds of sacrifices to win the Turkish War of Independence.
With respect, gratitude and mercy to Şerife Bacı (Sister Şerife), Halime Çavuş (Sergeant Halime), Necibe Nine (Nanny Necibe), those like them and the women of Kastamonu who organized the first Women’s Rally of Anatolia on December 10, 1919 and to all heroes.
