Where İstiklal Marşı (Independence March) was sung for the first time
Kadı Nasrullah Complex and especially Nasrullah Mosque are identified with Kastamonu. The complex consists of a mosque, water-tank with a fountain, Münire, Tevfikiye and Numaniye madrasahs.
The mosque and the fountain are called by this name since they were built by Kadı Nasrullah in 1506 during the reign of Sultan Bayezid II. The madrasahs were built by other people in later periods. The ornamentation and calligraphy inside the mosque were made by the calligrapher Şevki Efendi from Kastamonu.
Nasrullah Mosque became famous for the sermons of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the Poet of Independence, during the years of the Turkish War of Independence, and almost became the pulpit of the idea of Turkish Independence. The sermons that Mehmet Akif preached here were published in the newspapers and serials of that period and spread throughout the country, and the belief in the idea of Turkish Independence was strengthened among the people.
Nasrullah Mosque and its outbuildings invite its visitors to experience the spirit and excitement of the Turkish War of Independence.
