Memory of the city
On October 29, 2002, Turkey’s first City History Museum was opened in Kastamonu.
The museum, which was created by the Governorship of Kastamonu and is a pioneer in its format, is located just below the Government House.
In the museum, which presents the urbanization process of Kastamonu, its development from prehistoric times to the present day to its visitors with photographs, graphics and various objects, rare artifacts such as Anatolia’s first handmade console piano from 1904, 40 square meter carpet woven in 1907 at Kastamonu Sanaî-i Nefise Mektebi (School of Arts) are exhibited. The narration supported by audio and visual shows is one of the must-see places for every visitor to Kastamonu.
